MENDOCINO ENDURANCE RIDE INFORMATION & RULES 

 

Simcha is a 300 acre horse and timber ranch with views out over the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountains.  Base Camp will be in a meadow at the foot of the property, with water provided for horses.  Please being "people" water.  It's nearly never hot on the Mendocino coast, and if the fog comes in it could be damp and chilly.  Bring suitable clothes for horses and riders!

 

                          RIDING HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDERS, ADULT AND JUNIOR!

1. Equines must be at least 60 months for the 50 mile ride, and 48 months for the 25 mile ride.

 

2. Junior riders (under 16 as of 12/1/2018) must be accompanied by an adult (21 years of age) who entered the ride and agrees to remain with the minor throughout the ride. Junior riders will not be permitted to start or continue on from any point of the ride without the original sponsor, unless the sponsor is pulled and makes arrangements with ride management for the minor to go on with someone else. Juniors must wear an approved helmet.

 

3. Abuse of the horse or the use of stimulants and/or pain killers is prohibited.

 

4. All horses are subject to saliva, urine and blood test.

 

5. No substances of any type may be injected by needle into the horse during the day of the ride.

 

6. All horses must be presented for pre-ride veterinary inspection. Early Saturday morning vet-in is available for those arriving after dark on Friday.

 

7. All riders must stay on the marked trail.

 

8. All veterinary decisions are final.

 

9. To receive a completion horses must be FIT TO CONTINUE at the post-ride inspection.

 

10. Juniors who are qualified to ride unsponsored should send along the appropriate paperwork with entry.

 

11. Manure from camp sites to be deposited in designated manure piles.

 

12.  Dogs allowed at camp sites.  No dogs at Vet Checks or on trails. At management discretion, dogs must be on leash.  Dogs that go onto our neighbor's cattle ranch may be shot! (It's the law.)

 

13,  Early camping may be allowed.  Call or email for permission to arrive before Friday, Aug 2, 2019 or stay after Sunday, Aug 4th.  Most trails will not be open until Saturday, Aug 3, but a loop trail will be marked and mapped through Simcha and nearby neighboring property so you can pre-ride the start and finish.  Also, you can trailer just across the Bridge and ride on Ten Mile Beach, or a few miles further to Jackson Demonstration State Forest, where the Mendocino 50 was held from 1980 to 1997.

 

The entry fee includes participation in the ride, camping, drug test fee, use of the facilities, rider dinner on Saturday, AERC fees and completion award. AERC has also assessed a $15 fee for all participants who are not members of AERC.

 

Check in with ride management will be on Friday, August 2, 2017 from 1 pm to 8 pm. Veterinarians will be available for the pre-ride exam from 4 pm until dark. All horses need to be vetted in and numbered by dark Friday night. The head ride veterinarian will set the criteria for pulse and respiration throughout the ride and will announce the criteria at the ride meeting Friday evening.

The ride meeting will be at 7 pm Friday evening at base camp.
